Calatabiano, a picturesque country town in eastern Sicily near Taormina, is very easy to get to, both from the A18 freeway (Messina-Catania) and by train. Located in a scenic setting on top of a small hill, with a view of Mount Etna, Antico Borgo is in an ideal position between the sea, Taormina and beaches on the coast at San Marco and Giardini Naxos.

Calatabiano boasts a strategic position as well as an archeological heritage and charming religious and folk traditions; fairs such as Carnival, the feast of the Patron Saint, medlar festival or “Calata di San Filippo“, which celebrates the victory against evil spirits, are not to be missed.
The massive Arab-Norman castle, which dominates the town and the Alcantara valley, represents a significant point of interest: the stone road which climbs through prickly pear, almond and olive trees, arrives at a very scenic fortress (lazier folks can reach the top by taking the convenient panoramic elevator).
The Calatabiano train station has daily connections from Catania, Messina and Taormina. Agriturismo Antico Borgo is located at Via Calatabiano Pasteria 8, across from the station.
Antico Borgo is located 60 km from Catania’s airport. Take the AMT bus Aeroporto – Centro – Stazione ferroviaria (Catania’s train station). From the train station take a train for Calatabiano, or Etna Trasporti bus for Giardini Naxos (Recanati area) and from there take a taxi.

If you are coming from Catania’s airport, Palermo or Syracuse, take the bypass to reach the A18 Catania/Messina freeway, also useful if coming from Messina. Exit at Fiumefreddo and at the traffic circle take the 2nd exit (across from the tollbooth); at the end of this street (around 3 km) turn right.
